Haskell Wexler's Documentary On Long Hours in Film Production

Made in USA

Any company can use this in their advertisements and on their products at anytime - the only caveat is -
it must be true..

We have been fighting the outsourcing of our jobs through runaway productions for decades. Now that the general public is aware of and sensitized to the problem of outsourcing we have a unique opportunity to marshal them to support the American film industry.

We have been fighting the outsourcing of our jobs through runaway productions for decades. Now that the general public is aware of and sensitized to the problem of outsourcing we have a unique opportunity to marshal them to support the American film industry.

We can reach out to all those people in the Carolina's who were denied the economic benefits of the 90 million dollar production of "Cold Mountain" because it was outsourced into Romania's economy. We can reached out to every American who is concerned about outsourcing. We need to find ways to help them distinguish American made movies from "outsourced" movies. One tool is the "Made in USA" Standard.

This has to be a grass roots effort because -
The International's official position is - from a letter Pres. Short sent the US Dept. of Commerce in opposition to the Countervailing Duty Petition on Imports of Films.

"the petition and the petitioners do not represent our views or the views of our members.

He went on "Members of our union are not being harmed by the imports targeted by this petition." (economic runaway productions)

While still Calling for Boycotting individual films let's put the industry on notice that we will support US film workers by looking for the "Made in USA" mark.

What Can I do?

One thing you can do is use a signature file for your email with the Made in USA message. Every message you send will remind people of the runaway production problem.

You can use this one if you would like. (Click Here and save file to a local drive on your machine)  Or This One (best for email sent as text) - If you make your own and want to share it, email them in.

Email The Motion Picture Association of America - tell them you are going to look for the "Made in USA" mark when purchasing their members entertainment products. Here is the email I sent

Contact your US Senator and US Representative ask them to sponsor/support a bill to add film/tv/dvds etc to the products covered by the "Made in USA" Standard.
